We hope that you can join us as Joey is called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on January 18th, 2025. He has worked very hard in preparation for this day, and we are so excited and proud of him.
“Bar/bat Mitzvah” means “son/daughter of the commandment”. Within the Jewish community, this day marks a young person’s transition into adulthood. In celebration of reaching this day, Joey will read from the Torah, the handwritten scroll containing the first five books of the Bible. Joey will also lead us in prayer.
Services start at 9:30am, though Joey's part will not begin until 10 or after. Immediately after services, around 11:30/12, there will be a luncheon in the social hall adjancent the sanctuary.
Common dress includes khakis, collared shirts, dresses, and skirts. Men often wear suits to Saturday morning services.
For Joey's Ravenscroft friends, chapel dress is appropriate.
For most bar/bat mitzvahs, I send Joey in nicer pants and a collared shirt. Many of the kids wear tennis shoes to services.
It is our custom that all people, regardless of age, religion or gender, cover their heads (by kippah, hat or other appropriate covering) during services. Special kippah will be available at the entrance to the synagogue, and are for you to keep.
Please be aware that Beth Meyer is electronics- free on Shabbat (Friday night through Saturday night). We ask that you refrain from using cell-phones, cameras and other electronic devices anywhere on the Beth Meyer campus during those times. Please be sure to silence your cell phones before arriving.
